Cupid goes to Psyche’s castle. Then Psyche wakes up and she is staring eye-to-eye with Cupid even thought he was invisible. He had to be invisible because no mortal was allowed to see a god because the gods thought they were better than mortals. Then Cupid scratched himself with his golden arrow and started to fall in love with the beautiful princess. Every night Cupid would carry psyche to his hidden palace.
Day by day, Cupid would visit Psyche at the palace where she slept and would leave at dawn. He never revealed himself to Psyche because as it was a rule for mortals not to see gods. He left Psyche at dawn everyday because he did not want his mother Aphrodite to know about what was going on between him and Psyche.
One day Psyche went to the place where Cupid rested his head and help a lamp over him to see what the God of Love really looked liked and also the God who visited her every night. Psyche was amazed at what she saw. Then suddenly the oil from the lamp fell over Cupids body and suddenly Cupid awoke.
Psyche was so startled. She was startled because she did not want Cupid to see her or he would tell him mom Aphrodite. As she ran towards a nearby river to hide, Aphrodite came and snatched her from out of the bushes. Aphrodite treated Psyche as a slave/ servant.
Psyche was in search of her long lost true love. She turned to Aphrodite to help her find her true love. Aphrodite decided to help her but since she was so jealous of Psyche she made her perform four impossible tasks.
The four impossible tasks were to sort the seeds, get the Golden Fleece from fierce sheep, get water from the river Styx, and get beauty from Proserpine. All of these tasks that Aphrodite made Psyche do could have killed her and Aphrodite put her in danger. Luckily Cupid secretly still loved Psyche so he turned invisible and assisted Psyche in her tasks. Cupid also comforted Psyche in her hard labor. The reason he helped is because he did not want to see the woman he loved do all of this hard work by herself.
Finally Psyche was able to get the hand in marriage of Cupid. It was ruled by the gods that Aphrodite was not allowed to interfere with the marriage of Psyche and Cupid. Psyche asked the Gods for their blessings. Therefore the gods turned Psyche from a mortal princess into a goddess.
